It’s my time, now

One of the joys of living alone (and there are precious few of them) is that I can more effectively manage my own time. As long as I get the work done, no-one is telling me how to manage my non-client-facing  weekdays. In simple terms, I’m free to do what I want with my own time.

This morning for example - I woke around 5AM and:

  • checked work email for feedback on weekend tasks,
  • answered overnight reader comments from Sneezy Melon and Snoskred,
  • read feeds for a while,
  • left a comment for Colin on his man marries dog post,
  • entered a couple of posts into the Carnival of Australia,
  • checked reader stats on Feedburner, and
  • downloaded the 10.5.1 update for OSX Leopard (and I’m about to reboot, wish me luck!).

Oh, and I wrote this post too. All in about an hour of sheer blog-centric bliss.

I wouldn’t wish living alone on anyone that didn’t feel comfortable about it, but man, you can get a lot done! :)

    I hear your Andrew!
Except for the getting up at 5am bit…

    Hi Zern,

    thank you for your comment.

I normally get up early - but as it turned out my early enthusiasm was a weird side effect of coming down with the flu, of which I am now well and truly suffering.

What I usually do if I get up early is potter about with afterwork and blogs until my “wake up” alarm goes off then get ready for work - I’m a morning person by preference.

    Best regards, Andrew

I like to get up early to blog. It is the only time of the day that is just mine. I also achieve a lot in those early hours.

    My list today included

    Pack the Kids Lunch
    Feed the Animals
    Write a Blog Post
Read some Blogs and leave some comments
    Make Breakfast for the Kids
    Hang Out some clothes
    Wash the dishes

    Fairly normal.

    Hi Colin,

sounds like you get a lot done in the morning too :)
I suppose if I still had kids and animals around there would be less early morning time for blogging and afterwork - although by 5AM most cats would have finished prowling and most kids/dogs wouldn’t be awake yet :)
    Best regards, Andrew
