The frenzy over John Chow is certainly growing. People are prepared to do almost anything to get a mention on his blog - recent examples include:
- buying him a lot of beer,
- publishing top 5 lists of lessons learnt from John,
- publishing analyses of John’s blog,
- creating John Chow mosaics out of food,
- typosquatting on the John Chow name,
- analysing his ReviewMe-inspired traffic spikes, and
- making him out to be the big bad blog.
And that list is just for the month of July, so far. How long will it be until people are naming their babies after him for links? Or getting his face tattooed on their bodies? Does this make him the Dalai Lama of the blogosphere, or the Paris Hilton?

I just looked at the long term effect of his reviews and posted in The John Chow Effect: Does it kill young blogs?.
How much do you want to be bet John doesn’t link me?
Hi Lucia,
thanks for your comment.
I’d be willing to bet that your chances of a link are about equal to mine - probability 0.0
Cheers, Andrew
I’d say both your chances would be pretty good… if you were willing to fork out the cash. Whether it’s worth it or not is another matter entirely.
Hi pickles,
thanks for your comment.
I think Lucia’s article shows that the John Chow Effect is really the kiss of death - so no, not worth it at any price
Cheers, Andrew
